President Kennedy gave his famous "Peace Speech" at The American University in Washington D.C. in June 1963. That was 62 years ago this month and still so relevant today more than ever. That was the speech that JFK in his remarks said, "our problems are manmade, therefore they can be solved by man." In the speech JFK laid out why war is not inevitable and diplomacy to solve problems is not a sign of weakness.
The speech is more important today because America has a President who dislikes diplomacy, dislikes the democratic process, the constitution, law and order and wants to be King to rule and judge all. And just this week committed America to a war in Iran (following Israel's lead) to deny Iran a nuclear weapon that does not exist. It was the second time Trump failed to use diplomacy with Iran.
Sixty two years ago when JFK gave that speech illustrates how American leadership has failed with the Clowns running government today. The media in general should read Kennedy's speech over and over and then they might just realize how they have contributed to Trump's failures. President Kennedy's speech took place five months before his fateful trip to Dallas where he was greeted with posters stating Wanted for Treason with Kennedy's picture. There were other extreme posters against the President all by those extremist who believed in dividing the country and opposed Kennedy's efforts of diplomacy.
President Kennedy never backed down from seeking diplomacy backed up by our military's power if necessary. He was a true leader who understood humanity when he said, "We all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's future and we are all mortal." Those words tell the story of understanding what the future might bring. Kennedy was sincere in seeking peace without surrender. He recognized we do not live in a perfect world when he also said, we do not have to love our neighbor, but we all have much in common that we can agree on and therefor still live in peace.
The present administration has failed the simple test of articulating a positive policy to move the country forward. Nothing but chaos, toxic rhetoric, incompetent people in important positions and the use of lies and misinformation as policy. The extremist has learned nothing and as a result, the future looks like their failed past. And that really says it all.
