Happy New Year: Trump and the GOP Continue The Government Shutdown

"The People's House" received a sad New Years resolution from the President and the GOP, a partial shut down of the federal government that will furlough hundreds of thousands workers and with out a pay check.  The President said he looked forward to the shut down and displayed the lack of temperament and qualifications to be President that Hillary Clinton spoke about long ago.

And Trump's ditto head GOP controlled congress just went with the flow and continued to display their failure to lead and govern.  The U.S. House rolled over and passed a funding bill containing the $5 billion for Trump's wall on a partisan vote.  The U.S. senate passed its own funding bill that included $1.6 billion for border security but no wall funds and the bill passed on a non-partisan vote with democratic support.  Trump actually signaled his support for this bill and that is why republican Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell brought the bill up for a vote.  Trump reneged on his support after the vote.  Louisiana's little boy representative in the U.S. House Steve Scalise voted for the House bill even though he knew the bill would never be debated by his own party in the U.S. Senate.

So two years of full control by Trump and the GOP Congress ends a sad two year period in American history.  The "people's house" is held hostage to Trump's sorry behavior and no policy or plan has been introduced by Trump or the GOP concerning immigration reform.  All they have to show on immigration is their sad rhetoric on the subject and their usual blame game against the democratic party.

In order to realize just how bad this republican controlled congress has been think about this.  When President Obama was first elected President, the republican leaders in the House and Senate promised to oppose every thing Obama asked for because they vowed to make him a one term President.  Their opposition was solid until the very end even though Obama won reelection.  For the  last two years they had a republican President and all they have accomplished is a tax cut that adds $1.5 trillion to the national debt, increases deficit spending and a government shutdown.  They ended the year without completing the business of the people even though they had the power to do so.  Trump and his GOP simply refused to govern.

Democrats may have their faults but they have respect for the American people and our system of democratic governing.

The Democratic Party, The Mature Party Will Take Control of The U.S. House of Representatives on January 3.

Change is a part of every day life and the new year 2019 will bring change to congress as the Democratic Party takes control of the U.S. House on January 3.  And one is safe to say changes will take place because the "mature party" will govern that body of congress.  The issues will no longer be ignored or kicked down the road and the buck stops at Nancy Pelosi's desk if she is elected the "speaker of the U.S. House.

The democratic party has a record of facing the issues, debating and proposing solutions and they will face the issues republicans only talk about but never act on.  Since the economy always does better on the democratic watch that is one subject they will push along with reducing deficit spending.  The party will also hold the President responsible for his autocratic rule.

The republican controlled Senate can block any legislation passed by the U.S. House if they want to because they have the votes and the people will have an opportunity to see in due time if the republican party learned anything.  It is a known fact the republican party could care less about people and the issues that affect the country.  That is one reason for their poor showing in the November 6 elections.

On the other hand, the democratic controlled house will give the republican party a real offer to advance those important issues the GOP and Trump failed to address the past two years.  It would be a time where both parties could let the country know the issues are more important than the politics and that America's two party system is able to govern once again.  Both parties could also claim it happened on their watch.

This writer is not dreaming and is well aware of the republicans extreme ideology, obstructive attitude but the status quo has to change.  It does not appear that in the near future both houses of congress can be controlled by one party with enough votes to assure total control of the issues.  That means for the fore-seeable future a divided congress that can not govern.  That has gone on too long already and has to change.

The ball is now in congress and the President's court to see that 2019 began the needed change.

What Will The New Year Bring Politically? A Continuing Story.

Will the New Year of 2019 repeat the same mistakes of Trump's first two years in office of chaos, lies,  a disrespect for people and the democratic process and the obstruction of justice?  Can the trumpet man turn it all around and be a good servant to our country and democracy?  His end of the year shutdown of government  and his track record says no.

The most positive indicator for 2019 will be the democratic control of the U.S. House of Representatives.  The mature people will lead the House for the next two years and will discharge their responsibilities and fulfill their obligations to the people.  And most importantly, hold the President responsible for his actions.  The democratic party has plans and policy it will introduce on infrastructure, health care, immigration and other issues that would reduce the chance of an economic recession in 2019.

President Trump and the GOP controlled congress have very few accomplishments for the last two years.  And the republicans who have controlled the U.S. House for the last 8 straight years and the U.S. Senate for the past 4 straight years have failed to even introduce comprehensive immigration reform legislation to debate the issue and failed to establish health care reform.  Those two issues were at the top of their agenda.

And yes my fellow Americans, understanding the failed past is still the key to a better future.  The voters on November 6 understood that.

Another Tremendous First For PolitiDose: The U.S. Supreme Court Sends President Trump a Message

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday refused to block an earlier ruling by the U.S. District Court in San Francisco when Judge Tigar issued a temporary restraining order blocking Trump's proclamation last month that only migrants who arrived in the U.S.  legally would be eligible for asylum.  The U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 and chief justice John Roberts, an appointee of President George W. Bush voted with the liberal wing to enforce the District Court.  The Trump administration has made it a habit to go straight to the Supreme Court thinking the conservative court would rule in their favor.

Trump criticized Judge Tigar's decision at the time and said it is the work of an Obama judge.  Supreme Court Justice John Roberts issued a statement a few days later rebuking Trump's statement and said:  We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges, adding that an independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.

The judge's ruling for blocking Trump's new asylum orders was as follows:  Whatever the scope of the President's authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden.  Note:  This writer has pointed out in commentary many times over how Trump and his party lack any immigration plans or policy to deal with the problem and instead used only rhetoric which is no policy at all.

In a PolitiDose commentary dated 10/7/18, titled, The U.S. Senate Confirms Brett Kavanaugh For the U.S. Supreme Court written after his confirmation, this writer's words have come true in this latest Supreme Court ruling against Trump.  A so called conservative judge, John Roberts stepped up to the plate and would not allow Trump to corrupt or taint our criminal justice system because he understands the law and the independence of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Judge Roberts is also smart enough to see how Trump and his party has openly said how they want to appoint judges to do their own bidding.  No ethical judge would allow that to take place.

And once again, you read it here first in PolitiDose, your daily dose of political commentary.

Trump and His Party Shuts Down The Government (The People's House) Once Again

The real unreported story is sad.  The "people's house" that the people pay for so the government can function and discharge its responsibility is shut down again for the third time in the last two years while Trump and his party control the process.  Those who work in the "people's house" deserve better and so does the American people.  And the issue used by Trump to shut down the government (his wall) tells a story of how pathetic a man he really is.  His party falls right in line and always picks the holiday season to use that for leverage.

Taking care of the "people's house" should come first and foremost without any strings attached and with out the usual CR extensions that provide only short term relief.  All other outstanding issues should be resolved thru the regular legislative process where a debate and the merits can take place.  President Trump's lies about Mexico paying for his wall and the lack of any real policy or plan by Trump and his party for comprehensive immigration reform represents immigration huffing and puffing only and renders his wall meaningless.

Trump and his party have no respect for the "people's house" even when they are in control.  A short shut down or a long shut down is one and the same because it should never take place.  Two years of failing to govern is not by accident.  It is the result of a traitorous President and liar with the help of a extreme ideology republican party hell bent on destroying America's democratic process.  Is this the proper way to say Merry Christmas to those who work in the "people's house" or to the American people?

CNBC's Mouth That Roars: Mad Money Guy Jim Cramer

Jim Cramer, the guy who failed to see the 2008 economic meltdown, recession and the record job losses that followed, then criticized President Obama's policies that brought the economy back, now in its 9th year of expansion, low unemployment and steady job creation is now at war with federal reserve chairman Jeremy Powell for raising the interest rate after another meeting this week.

In a news release of 12/19, CNBC's mad money guy said Powell is Trump's worst re-election nightmare and that Trump is right to worry about a possible recession in 2019 because of the interest rate hikes.  But Cramer is silent on the fact that he supports Trump, his policies and the people he appoints.  And Trump appointed Mr. Powell to his present position and should have known about Powell's position on raising or lowering interest rates.  The previous federal reserve chairwoman, Janet Yellen was appointed by President Obama in 2014 and did a great job in handling the federal reserve while the economy continued to grow, create jobs and lower the unemployment rate.

Janet Yellen has a proven record as an economist.  She served on the federal reserve board for a number of years and was President Clinton's White House Council of Economic Advisors from 1997-1999.  And every one knows the economic track record of President Clinton..  Trump criticized Janet Yellen's policies at the federal reserve during the 2016 campaign and replaced her simply because she was an Obama appointee.  So now he is criticizing his own appointee.  Mr. Trump is not very good at any thing except lying.

Jim Cramer may know a lot about the stock market but his economic comments are worthless.  A recession is coming regardless what the federal reserve does and its coming because of the Trump tax cuts, a lack of a real policy and the fact that republican administrations have no real success to talk about concerning the economy, job creation balancing the federal budget, regulating business, especially the banking business and have no real understanding of the middle class.

And keep in mind that the stock market and the economy has had its best years under democratic administrations.  Jim Cramer and the business community won't tell you that because they are promoting their own thing.  The Dow average almost tripled on President Obama's watch.  It will not do that on Trump's watch regardless what interest rates do.

NOTE:  Just this month, Janet Yellen said, "IT WAS WORRISOME OF A FINANCIAL CRISIS IN THE MAKING FOR THE BANKING INDUSTRY BECAISE OF THE LOSS OF AUTHORITY BY BANKING REGULATORS AND THE MOVE TOWARD DEREGULATION.'   And that is what is taking place under the Trump administration.

Crooked Trump Surrenders To A Law Suit By New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood On The "Trump Foundation

According to an NBC news release the Trump Foundation, a charitable foundation started by Donald Trump agreed to dissolve and give away its assets to other non-profitable organizations according to an agreement between state prosecutors and the Trump Foundation.  The agreement was announced by the New York Attorney General.  The Attorney General made clear the agreement only settles this one issue and that the lawsuit moves forward on the other issues cited in the lawsuit.

The Attorney General also mentioned in her statement the following:  (1)  Our petition detailed a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation  --  including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing and much more.  (2)  This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests.  (3)  Today's stipulation accomplishes a key piece of the relief sought in our lawsuit earlier this year.  Under the terms, the Trump Foundation can only dissolve under judicial supervision and it can only distribute its remaining charitable assets to reputable organizations approved by my office.  Those are strong statements by the Attorney General.

When one takes into consideration what has been learned from the Mueller investigations and Trump's traitorous acts so far as President, more and more it becomes clear what PolitiDose has said all along.  Yes, there was a crooked Presidential candidate in the 2016 Presidential campaign, but it was not Hillary Clinton.  And that really says it all.

Times Picayune Opinion Writer Tim Morris and Louisiana's U.S. Senator John Kennedy Deserve Each Other

John Kennedy, U.S. Senator and imitator of folksy talk announced he would not run for Governor of Louisiana against Governor John Bel Edwards.  That decision was not surprising since he has no record to run on and was a supporter of former Gov. Bobby Jindal and his failed policies.  And he now supports Trump's policies in Washington.  Now comes an opinion column by Morris dated December 7 concerning Kennedy's decision and Morris' disappointment with Kennedy's decision.

Morris is still singing the same tune about Edwards being the only Democratic Governor in a deep south state and how Trump carried Louisiana.  He than talks about how Bill Cassidy defeated Mary Landrieu and that Trump voters in Louisiana and the fact that Louisiana is a republican state still has its advantage.  The people of Louisiana should remember Cassidy well.  He is a doctor who said he had a health care plan to repeal and replace the ACA but his own party would not take up the measure.

Morris also makes the silly statement that since Kennedy is not running for governor, it doesn't mean that he will be taking it easy on Edwards.  This writer has news for Morris, Edwards can take care of himself against any republican because republicans have no accomplishments to run on or talk about.  Morris knows that and that is why he and conservatives continue to blame democrats for all things negative that take place on the republican watch.

Morris also said, "at the end of the day, Edwards is still a Democrat."  THIS WRITER SAYS, THANK GOD HE IS.  Morris tries to be coy and throws in,  "assuming the President avoids serious legal problems in the coming months, Trump could be a major factor in the governor's race."  His opinion column is all over the lot.  Of course it is easy to understand since Morris is a Trump ditto head supporter no matter what.  And that really says it all.  Conservatives are stilled chapped at the BLUE WAVE on November 6 that blew their leadership out of the U.S. House come next month.  And it even took place in Trump territory.

The U.S. Economy, Job Creation and Unemployment

The U.S. Labor Department announced the economy created 155,000 in November and the unemployment rate held at 3.7%.  It was the 98th straight month of positive job growth.  Economist were expecting November's numbers to come in around 195,000 jobs.  The Labor Department also reported it revised the October job numbers down 13,000 from its earlier report.

Hourly wages have increased 3.1% so far this year, however, the number of weekly hours worked has decreased.  Some economists set off alarm bells with the decreased in hours worked and coupled with the recent erratic moves of the stock market, more alarm bells have sounded.  Trump's economic adviser, Larry Kudlow had to take to the air and announce that a recession is not in sight.  (does that sound familiar?)

November's job creation pushed the Trump administration farther behind the Obama administration in Job creation during Trump's first 22 months in office as follows:  In Trump's first 22 months in office 4,037,000 jobs have been created for a monthly average of 183,500 jobs.  In Obama's last 22 months in office 4,510,000 jobs were created for an monthly average of 205,000 jobs.

The smaller number of jobs created in November will give economists something to talk about in trying to figure out any clue given in the number.  But the best clue is precedent, and the readers of PolitiDose know where that leads.

Thoughts On LSU's 2018 Football Season

The LSU Tigers completed the regular season with a won-loss record of 9 - 3.  The exact same record as the 2017 Tiger team.  It was coach Orgeron's second full year as head coach.  Before the 2018  season began, this writer's commentary cautioned that Tiger fans should take a wait and see attitude as to how the team would respond and not make any rush to judgement call.

Brody Miller, sports journalist for the Times Picayune in a 12/2 report said LSU surpassed expectations and gave several reasons why which makes no sense to this writer.  The fact is LSU still lacks a consistent offense and poor offensive game planning.  The Tigers are also behind in executing the fundamentals of the game and lacks a winning attitude.  Alabama is still the team that LSU makes very little progress against because LSU is outcoached.

This season LSU beat Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas and Ole Miss and lost to Texas A&M, yet all those teams played Alabama and scored more points against them than LSU did.  Auburn scored 21 points, Georgia scored 35 points, Arkansas scored 31 points, Ole Miss scored 7 points and Texas A&M scored 23 points.  LSU was shut out by Alabama.  Those teams do not have better offensive players than LSU so why can they move the ball against Alabama much better that LSU can?  The answer is coaching.

This writer is also on record who thought LSU should have hired a head coach with a proven record as a winner after Miles was fired.  And now, after two and half years as LSU's head coach, school is still out on coach Orgeron.  Jimbo Fisher, who is in his very first year as head coach at Texas A&M defeated LSU the last game of the season.  Coach Orgeron said after the game LSU should have won the game in regulation.  This writer believes that statement tells a story.

The Death of A Past President Exposes The Sick Mentality of The Present President

The nation pays tribute to former President George H.W. Bush after his passing and remembers his leadership with comments and stories from those who knew him best and others who admired and appreciated his service to our nation.  His body now lies in state in the Capitol Rotunda for the people to view in person.  It has been a humble week, so what does President Trump do?

He sets out and tweets a storm of personal attacks against Robert Mueller and others involved in the special prosecutor's investigation  in order to intimidate and obstruct the investigation.  The President is incapable of understanding the moment and a time for mourning the loss of a fallen leader.  It is all about Trump and his ego and the sickness within him.  America has no President who can console when necessary.  Instead, America has a President who likes to try and knock people down and has no clue how to lift people up.

And the republicans in congress turned their backs on Trump's malignancy that has destroyed all norms of governing and America's compassion and kindness.  Trump's fog has engulfed the republican leadership, made them cowards and reduced them to ditto head robots.  The republican party of old stood up to President Nixon when it counted and discharged their responsibility to the country.  Today's republican party is Trump's party to bend, submit and break and close their eyes to the laws they swore to uphold and defend.

The malignancy will only end when the President is impeached.

The Dallas Cowboys 13 The New Orleans Saints 10: Some Thoughts On The Game

The Saints entered the game in BIG "D" Thursday night with a 10-1 record and a 10 game winning streak.  The Cowboys entered the game with a record of 6-5 thanks to a win over Washington a week earlier on Thanksgiving day.  For the past several weeks sports writers in Louisiana were taking a lot of time talking about Brees personal records, the Saints prolific offense and a Super Bowl appearance.

But the Dallas Cowboys was one of the few Saints opponents who knew how to play defense and were not about to let the Saints receivers run wild where they and Brees could play catch like they do with so many other teams.  They had a smart enough defensive coach who knew his defense had to play the receivers tight and that is what they did so effectively.  The results were no prolific Brees and receivers that had problems with the Cowboy defensive backs playing them tight.  It's not what they are use to.

The game with Dallas exposed what this writer has said all along.  The Saints offense is just an average offense when they play a well coached team who knows how to play defense.  The game offered more evidence that the NFL has too many bad teams that are poorly coached and can not compete.  The Saints have beaten only 4 teams with winning records at this point in the season and their next opponent has a losing record.

Sports writers and sport shows, especially those in New Orleans continue to report apple polishing reports on the Saints and their shows are more about entertainment than a proper evaluation of the team.  Why did they start talking prematurely about the Saints holding the bye over the Rams 4 weeks ago?  Now the Dallas game changed all of that and with 4 games left to play it could change again.

Offensive records will continue to be broken with all the terrible teams in the NFL.  The Dallas game and the fact that more than half of the NFL teams are non-competitive, should promote a more objective review by sports writers.  But this writer sees no such change in the New Orleans sports writers reporting.  The hype and Brees personal records will continue to lead their parade.

General Motors, President Trump and The Republican Party: They All Live in The Same Trough.

General Motors CEO, Mary Barra announced that the U.S. auto giant plans to close 5 of their manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Canada, reduce their salaried work force by 15% (14,700 jobs) and cut cost by $6 billion dollars by 2020.  President Trump's reaction was threatening to reduce GM's government subsidies which only congress can co.  It was the usual huffing by an out of touch President.  GM's CEO Barra also said Trump's tariffs has cost the company $1 billion.

This trio of corporate welfare, Trump, the republican party and GM, who along with other corporations sold the fraud bill of goods tax cut to America that was supposed to bring back jobs to America and build new manufacturing plants in America and the 14% corporate tax reduction would allow them to be competitive and do that.  PolitiDose pointed out long ago many times over it was the same tax fraud passed by the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush which gave the country the great Savings and Loan failure and the worst economic recession and job losses since the great depression.

Trump and the republicans fraudulent tax cuts and corporate Americas embrace of it demonstrated how the trio can not be trusted to tell the truth.  Corporate America never gets enough tax breaks to satisfy their lust for money.  Trump's reminding GM what America did for the company after the 2008 recession was a self serving statement to get people's mind off the tax cut lies and how cozy he and the republicans are with corporate America.  And now the public is being fed the information that the nations trade deficit is at an all time high despite Trump's tariffs because of the strong dollar and Trump and the business community want to lower the value of the dollar.

It is interesting to note that no reporter at President Trump's news conference has asked the President when he planned to move his company's business that operates over seas back to the U.S.  After all, his companies receive the 14% reduction in the corporate tax rates also.

The Last Two Elections Tell The Story Of How The So Called Conservative News Media Gets It All Wrong

First, lets cut through the hype of so called conservative elected officials and news media because both are extremist that preach an unAmerican ideology and are not conservatives at all.  The term will be used here simply because they call themselves conservatives.  According to Rush Limbaugh, the Fox News Network and other so called conservative media outlets, they have for years claimed the people of America were conservatives.  But it was a creation of their own imagination.

The popular vote in the 2016 Presidential election and the November 6 elections prove them wrong.  Hillary Clinton won the popular vote with 48% and more than 2 million votes than Trump received.  In the November 6 elections the democrats received 53.1% of the vote with 8.6 million more votes than the republicans received.  So the voting public did not vote conservative in either of those elections.  And certainly not the so called republican brand of conservatism.

The news media in general helped perpetuate the fairy tale of republican conservatism by just going with the flow and ignoring the facts.  The American voters ARE actually conservative in their own private and public lives but understand the failures of so called political conservatism and the extremism that has been substituted.  The voters also  understand how political conservatism is used to divide the country and its people.  The conservative media will now devote their attention to attacking the newly elected democratic controlled U.S. House since the voters tuned them out in the last two elections.  Blaming Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi for the republicans own created problems and lack of policy will no longer work.

The readers of PolitiDose could see it all coming because they paid attention to the real story and not the fairy tales and political hype.

A Way Forward To Deal With The Coming 2019 Republican Economic Recession: Adopt The Democratic Party's Economic Messsage and Experience

Another republican economic recession is coming in 2019.  In fact the outline of it has already begun but so much is glossed over by Trump and the republicans propaganda the real world comes crashing down when its too late.  The Trump-GOP tax cuts have already proved to be ineffective (no surprise there to those who pay attention) because trickle down economics only works in the mind of political ideology.  Job creation in the first 21 months of the Trump administration was less than the jobs created in the last 21 months of the Obama administration.  GDP reached a higher quarterly level during the Obama administration than it has so far under the Trump administration.

The present stock market convulsion is a result of over price, reality and the usual manipulation that takes  place.  Large corporations used their 14% tax reductions to buy back their own stock and other non job creation ventures instead of investing in new plant and equipment like Trump and the republicans said they would.  Trump's trade wars and tariffs are not friendly to economic progress nor are his isolation attitude with our allies helpful.

But there is hope for 2019 with the democrats control of the U.S. House if Trump and the republicans listen because the democrats will propose several initiatives that will improve the economic outlook and the economy.  The democrats will also address the issues that the republican controlled congress have kicked down the road for the past two years.  So the ball will be in Trumps and the GOP's court.  Will they work with the democratic party or allow the economic gains and job creation started by the Obama administration fail once again and allow the country to end up in recession again on the republican watch?

Nancy Pelosi: A Leader In The Democratic Party

Democratic representative in the U.S. House Nancy Pelosi is a leader and public servant who knows how to accomplish things for the country and its people.  She has served in the capacity as Speaker of The House in the past and played a key role in passing legislation when the democratic party controlled both houses of congress during President Obama's first two years in office.  Those two years produced the legislation that moved the country out of the republicans 2008 economic recession and reversed the record job losses.

Those two years also produced regulations to reform the Wall Street banks that played a role in the financial collapse of 2008, approved legislation that created the Affordable Care Act and other legislation important to the country.  Pelosi has the political understanding necessary to be pragmatic, bipartisan and is well aware what really matters and makes a difference for the average American.

Trump, the GOP and the conservative news media dislike Pelosi because she is an effective leader and knows more about issues than they do.  So now that the democrats won back the House they are trying their best to describe Pelosi as being in trouble to return as Speaker.  The republican drum beat against her will continue no matter what.  Pelosi will continue to be a productive elected official regardless what happens with the speakership because her cause is to serve.

When the democratic party takes control of the House in January, Trump and the GOP would do well to listen to the issues the democrats will talk about and propose because it will be progressive issues that have to do with moving the country and its people forward that has been neglected by the President and his party the last two years.  And Nancy Pelosi is the best democratic to lead the party.

Corporate Welfare: Nocking On The Door Once Again Of New Orleans and The State

The new Convention Center Hotel that developers would like to build next to and connected to the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans is in the news.  The Times Picayune carried the story and a large ad and a picture of what the development would look like.  Some information given in the TP story and ad about the development are as follows:  Dallas based Matthews Southwest Hospitality are the developers of the $558 million addition.  The 1200 room hotel would have a $282 million impact on the local economy, $18 million in new city taxes and $6 million in state taxes annually and 1900 new permanent jobs.  The hotel would stimulate economic activity and be the center point of a fabulous new entertainment district that will include residential, retail, dining and entertainment venues, creating a dynamic destination.

The hotel would rely heavily on subsidies that would need state and city approval.  The need for public support has been questioned by Mayor Cantrell and the Bureau of Governmental Research.  With such a rosy picture painted in the TP this writer questions why the project needs public support. (Corporate Welfare)  Should not the developers be responsible for the full cost of the project?  An if public support is given by the state and the city how much a loss in city and state taxes will that cost?  The Trump-GOP tax cuts gave the developers a 14% reduction in their corporate income tax.  The business community always wants more at the expense of the cities and states and the people.

The state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans needs all the tax revenue it is due.  We are at the bottom of the scale in many areas of need and it is time and good business for the state and city to obtain the proper financial return from business who want to move here and take advantage of what the state and city has to offer and that is much more than corporate welfare.

Louisiana's Republican Representation In Congress Continue To Be A Disaster

The National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire on November 30 unless extended by Congress.  And Congress is on its Thanksgiving break and won't be back until next week.  That leaves only a short time for Congress to act.  It is typical of what takes place when republicans are in control.  The same situation existed in 2017 and instead of passing legislation to solve the long term problem, an extension was passed in 2017 also.

Now we read in a Times Picayune article that Louisiana's senators John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy are pushing to get the extension passed so the new congress can take up the issue next year and pass a long term solution.  The people of Louisiana should remember that the republican party has controlled both houses of Congress for the last 4 years and just kicked the flood insurance can down the road.  And we all know how much Louisiana and its people depend on flood insurance.

The flood insurance program is another one of many examples how the republican party has failed to govern and then has to scramble at the last minute with extensions that do not take care of the long term problem.  Louisiana's republican representation in Congress are a pitiful lot who try and act elite but it is the democrats and their party who has always done more for the state and its people. Some truths never change.

The Republican Controlled Everything Waits For The Last Minute

The President and the republican controlled congress controls everything, yet here we go again with unfinished business knocking at the door and the end of the year drawing rapidly to a close.  And in between the holidays they will be away from Washington.  A major spending bill has to be voted on along with federal judgeships, criminal justice reform and other measures not to mention Trump's demand for funding a border wall.

The funding bill contains much that was already agreed on and should have passed long ago but republicans promised Trump they would handle the border wall this time around with the funding bill so now we have Trump's threat to shut down the government.  The criminal justice reform bill is a no brainer and it has bipartisan support and will pass if put to a vote.  But republican senate majority leader McConnell has yet to bring the bill up.  That provoked republicans Lindsay Graham and Ron Paul to ask McConnel to bring the bill up.  Graham said the bill would get 80 votes and pass easily and that it was his party that was the problem and not the democratic party.  That put the conservative news media in its place who blamed the lack of action on the democrats.

So the second year of Trump and the republican control will come to an end without any proposed comprehensive immigration reform legislation that could have been debated and voted on despite Trumps so called tough immigration rhetoric.  And for the republicans in congress, it is their fourth year since they controlled both houses of congress going back to President Obama's last two years in office.  Waiting for the last minute to pass a funding bill is old hat for the republicans.  It is their way of demonstrating how ideology has replaced policy and plans in governing.

The many judgeships they have scheduled to vote on before the years end is a farce.  It is a way to try and force a democratic vote before the holidays or keep congress in session if they don't.  Is it any wonder the November 6 elections broke up total control of congress by the Republican party?

The Non Competative National Football League

As of this writing the NFL has played 9 games (a few teams have played 10) and only 12 of the 32 teams have a winning record.  Six teams in each conference have winning records while 10 in each conference have losing and or break even records.   The lopsided numbers have been going on for years because the NFL has so many poor coaches and poor teams.  How many fans really wonder why so many offensive records are broken and new ones set?

This writer said many times over, there are too many teams in the NFL and the playoff system is a joke.  There are simply not enough good coaches and players to justify 32 teams in the NFL.  And the record speaks for itself.  In this writers judgement the NFL should have no more than 14 or 16 teams at most and the winners of each conference, NFC and AFC should face each other in the Super Bowl.  No playoffs are necessary.  That would make the NFL more competitive with more competitive players.

As far as the financial situation, it is a separate subject and could be handled properly.  The clue is over paid players, corporate welfare for franchise owners and the hype that has become larger than the game itself.  Thirty two teams, most of which are also rans will always be a stain on the record books.  And players who played during the era of 10 and 12 games seasons (except Tom Brady) accomplished more for their teams than the players of today.  A good example is Drew Brees.  The Saints have had only 2 winning seasons in the last 6 years under Brees leadership.

Competition in the NFL?  Its a fairy tail and as a result, individual records are inflated.  And that really says it all.

On November 6, The American Voters Turned Their Backs On The Scare Tactics and Lies of Trump and The GOP

Scare tactics and lies about any and everything framed Trump and the GOP's campaign to keep control of both houses of congress in the Nov. 6 elections.  But the "blue wave" answered with a resounding vote at the polls to win back the House and in the process by a wide margin.  Trump and the GOP's reply was the usual voting fraud charges being thrown around concerning the results in Georgia, Florida and Arizona.  Overlooked was the character of the voters who had enough of the personal attacks, division and lack of any plans to deal with the issues at hand.  Trump even tried to float a middle class tax cut before the election but could not articulate any particulars.  It was just another ploy to get votes that did not work.

The results of the election will be a younger democratic House with new ideas toward progress.  Come January when the new congress will be sworn in the democrats will work to pass their agenda and will lead.  The republican controlled senate will have to react because they have no record of action on immigration, infrastructure, improving health care, reducing deficit spending, balancing the federal budget, protecting the environment and so many other issues important to the people.

So now Trump is once again talking about shutting the government down before the end of the year if congress does not approve funding for his border wall that he said Mexico would pay for.  Another threat by the President and the GOP because they govern by ideology.  The American people have heard that threat before from Trump and any shutdown will land the ball in his court.

The President and Commander In Chief Was AWOL On Veterans Day

America's President and Commander in Chiefs have a long history of paying tribute, honor and respect to our veterans every year on veterans day at Arlington National Cemetery just across the river,  a short distance from the White House.  It is a very somber event to acknowledge the sacrifice of our veterans with a wreath laying ceremony and Arlington is also the home of the tomb of the unknown solder.

But this veterans day was different this year as Donald Trump, President and Commander in Chief was AWOL and did not show up.  He stayed in the White House all day and tweeted about fraud in Florida's election a judge said did not exist.  On Saturday Trump also failed to show up at a cemetery in France on the 100 anniversary of WWI.  Allied troops are buried there including American troops who served during that war.  But the leaders of France, Britain, and Germany were there to pay tribute and respect to their falling troops and allied troops.

What happened at those two events speak loud and clear Trump's lack of respect for our veterans and their honorable service to the U.S.  It confirmed Trump's failure as Commander in Chief and once again reminded all of his dislike of American POW's who were captured while in combat.  And in Trumps almost two years in office he has yet to visit our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The President and Commander in Chief continues his malignant behavior and traitorous acts.  The White House and the Presidency itself has never been exposed to such shame.  This is the same person who skipped out during his generations war and the same person who does not want the written ballots of our military people counted in the Florida elections of November 6.

America needs to impeach this shameful and disrespectful President and Commander in Chief, and it should be done soon.

Another Mass Shooting That Killed 12 People Including One Police Officer

This  time in Thousand Oaks, California at a college gathering.  The shooter was a Marine veteran using an illegal magazine on a firearm.  The shooting comes less than two weeks after the mass shooting at a Jewish Synagogue in New York that killed 11 innocent people.  And unfortunately, the NRA and Trump are still trying to sell the same falsehood that mass shootings can be prevented if some one with a gun was present at the time.

The police officer who answered the call at the shooting had a gun and was killed by the shooter.  The excuses given for doing nothing to reverse the mass killings is hopeless.  Only recognizing the problem and working towards real solutions will the answer be found.  Trump's rhetoric that it would all stop  when he became President has proven tough talk has no teeth and a major problem block to take care of a serious issue that claims the lives of innocent people.

The serious problem of mass shootings and killings in America require a serious response from serious people.  The lack of serious people in Washington to find common ground is appalling and innocent life is still at risk.  What a shame.

The LSU - Alabama Game: After The Dust Has Settled

With a week off for both teams before THE GAME, Louisiana sports journalists had a field day promoting the game and especially LSU's chances of beating Alabama this time around.  The usual hype took center stage in place of objectivity and the hype ended up being larger than the game itself.  Sports journalists and those commenting on behalf of LSU completely ignored LSU's previous games against Alabama with Orgeron and Ensminger at the controls and the teams dismal offensive play calling and game plan.

But now, this year and this LSU team was a different story they said.  They were going to spread Alabama's defense, be aggressive and take the game to Alabama.  Yeah Right.  It was pure hype as LSU has not played an aggressive offense against Alabama since the Miles/Orgeron era began.  And once again LSU was out coached, out played and Alabama is so far ahead in executing the fundamentals of the game its like college playing against a high school team.  Every offensive player on Alabama's team was a blocker and LSU's defense did not know how to shed those blocks.  And Alabama used mostly stand up blocking.

The shame of it all after more than 12 plus years at LSU, Miles and Orgeron have learned nothing about coaching against Alabama and Nick Saban.  It has always puzzled this writer why some coaches never seem to learn how to better themselves by adopting the successful teachings of other successful coaches.  That leads to the answer as to why there are so few top coaches in college football.  The same can be said of the NFL.

This writer is not a fan of Saban because he was untruthful as to why he left LSU.  Saban planted the seed when LSU hired him that he may want to return to the NFL one day.  That was his cover and LSU accepted it.  But Saban wanted out at LSU for reasons never made public and he used the NFL trump card for his exit at LSU.  After three years at Miami, Saban found what he was looking for, head coach at Alabama.  Saban knew what the NFL was all about because he coached in the NFL before going to Miami and he knew he could never control professional players like he could college players.

As an LSU fan for over 50 years, this writer still believes LSU football should have a proven winning head coach and an offensive co-ordinator who is in tune with the changes of the sport.  This writer was stunned when sports journalists never picked up on Les Miles statement some time after he was fired when he said, "he would now spend time learning about the changes taking place in football."  He should have done that while he was still coaching and preparing his LSU teams.  That was a remarkable statement.

Will the Alabama loss be a game that turns things around in a positive way for LSU or will it be the game that gave a clue to the future of head coach Orgeron?  Time will tell.

America, Democracy and The Democratic Party Won Big On Tuesday November 6.

The voters who went to the polls made it clear they wanted the democratic party to bring their ideas and experience to congress as a check on President Trump and the GOP who have demonstrated their disrespect for the democratic process.  And come January 2019, the democratic party will take over control of the U.S. House of Representatives and govern as Americans.  Unlike Trump and the GOP, democrats will have an agenda that is progressive for all Americans and the issues that Trump and the GOP just kicked down the road.

Democrats also defeated a number of republican governors, ran strong and won in a number of republican strongholds and over came republican voter suppression and gerrymandering in several states.  It was a huge victory for democracy, some thing republicans hate.  Voter turn out was deemed to be heavy and the final numbers will be known next week.

Trump and the GOP in their campaign advertising emails to voters looking for campaign contributions were claiming they were running against Nancy Pelosi, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the usual scare tactics and it failed big time.  Louisiana's little boy Steve Scalise did the same type email advertising (this writer received several) with basically the same language.  They attempted to run against Obama and Clinton and it backfired on them as the voters understood who was really on the ballot.

A record number of women candidates won their race and will now serve in congress.  This writer believes that is good for the country and its people and that they will do well and promote respect, unity and integrity in our politics.  And because of their accomplishments, there will be more women in the future who will run and win.  The democratic party opened that door for better representation for all the people and women responded.

It will be interesting when the final popular vote comes in to see just how many votes were cast for each party and the difference.  Chances are the democratic popular vote advantage will be significant like Clintons was in the Presidential election of 2016.  The latest count shows democrats won 30 House seats from republican control and there are still several seats where the vote count is still being reviewed.  The vote that gave the democrats control represented a large cross section of what America and democracy is all about.

The democratic party will be ready to accept their responsibility to lead and govern the U.S. House of Representatives because the grown ups will now take charge of the HOUSE.

The U.S. Economy Creates 250,000 Jobs In October

The U.S. Department of Labor reported the U.S. economy created 250,000 jobs in October and that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7%.  It was the 97th straight month of positive job growth for the economy.  Trump bragged about the job numbers on the campaign trail leading up to the November 6 elections criticized the same job numbers during the Obama administration as weak which were actually greater than Trumps.

In the 21 months Trump has been President 3,882,000 jobs have been created for a monthly average of 184,857 jobs.  In President Obama's last 21 months in office 4,287,000 jobs were created for a monthly average of 204,142 jobs.  Despite Trump's tax cuts and other actions, job creation under the Trump administration has fallen behind the production enjoyed during Obama's administration.

This writer explained in a previous commentary that the job numbers reported in PolitiDose do not include the corrections that the Labor Department makes from time to time to adjust the job numbers and those changes do not affect the outcome of the difference except the numbers themselves.  An article in the Huffington Post dated 11/6 gave the updated job numbers from the Labor Deportment for Trump's first 21 months in office and Obama's last 21 months in office as follows:  President Trump, 4,054,000 jobs for a monthly average of 193,047.  President Obama, 4,449,000 for a monthly average of 211,761.

The Huffington Post article was written in response to republican senator Lindsay Graham's statement that Obama's job creation record was weaker than Trump.  It follows the usual lies that the GOP depend on to influence the American people.  And once again it is PolitiDose, your daily dose of political commentary who has been on record and ahead of the regular news media to bring to the American people the facts on job creation, the economy, deficit spending and how Democrats govern best.  Trump and his party lie because they have no record of accomplishments.  And that really says it all.

The November 6 Elections Are More About Just Congressional Seats

It is about local and state government also, governors, judges, Attorney's Generals and etc.  Its about raising the minimum wage and adopting Medicaid expansion under the ACA in several states.  That is another good reason why people should go to the polls and vote.  A number of states have already approved minimum wage increases and Medicaid expansion under the ACA which has helped advance middle class income and added health coverage for millions of Americans.

Both of those issues are opposed by Trump and the GOP and for many years.  They have been idle on the minimum wage for the past 21 months while they have the control to pass such legislation.  That is why, little by little, states are taking it upon themselves to tackle the issue and placing it on the ballot.  We are also told that there are more women who are on the ballot in this election than ever before and some are veterans who served their country.

This writer likes to see states take the lead themselves and place issues on the ballot and determine their own future and not depend on the federal government, especially when you have a republican party in control who are opposed to everything.  So my fellow American voters, a lot is at stake on Tuesday, so get to the polls and vote for progress.

Note:  Just today it was reported in the Times Picayune that Trump's economic advisor, Larry Kudlow said he and the administration is opposed to any increase in the minimum wage, even the ones proposed on the state level.  Larry Kudlow you will remember was a so called economic expert for CNBC and during the George W. Bush administration predicted the Bush tax cuts would produce a great economy with balanced budgets and great jobs.  Of course, we all know what really took place on Bush's watch.

Megyn Kelly Is Out At NBC

NBC and Megyn Kelly have parted ways after her show was cancelled last week.  Kelly, who came to NBC from the Fox News Network less than two years ago was given a contract for $69 million by NBC.  This writer wrote commentary not long after she was hired and expressed the opinion that Kelly was a pretty face but lacked the talent to be a successful journalist.  Her salary amounted to a give away on NBC's part.

Megyn Kelly was one of the many nice looking women Fox employed and had a popular show only because she followed Fox's policy of promoting conservatism and attacking democrats especially President Obama and Hillary Clinton.  The viewers of Fox news eats that sort of thing up but NBC is of a different venue and Kelly was not able to cope with responsible journalism.  A pretty face will only take you so far.

The end of Kelly and NBC's relationship was no surprise to this writer.  Maybe Fox News will rehire her.

Donald Trump Inherited So Much Good When He Became President

And then for the next 21 months demonstrated how little respect he would have for the people, the country, our constitution and the rule of law.  And he uses his corrupt persona and lies in every thing he touches.  And his present campaign of fear in the lead up to net weeks elections demonstrate just how small a person sits in the White House.

President Trump was able to enter the White House with an economy in its 7th year of economic expansion and job creation.  An unemployment rate of 4.7%, a reduction in deficit spending, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on the wane with less U.S. troops and ISIS being ejected from their strong holds in Iraq.  A stock market that more than doubled, low gasoline prices and low inflation.  America and its allies were working together for a better world paying attention to and taking care of the environment was important.

Progress on immigration was made on immigrants from Mexico and no where being a "national emergency" as Trump is trying to sell on the campaign trail before next weeks election.  In fact  migrants arrest from Mexico have been much smaller in the last several years than in the year 2000 and there are more border patrol agents.  In fact Rogue Planas in a Huffington Post story of 10/31 says, Trump took office under conditions more favorable to immigration hard liners than any President since Richard Nixon.  Trumps problem with immigration is his own self serving empty rhetoric and no policy or plans

For a President who entered office with a positive America on the move, Trump blew it big time.  We now have a President who is so divisive he is not welcomed at funerals where former Presidents went to pay their respect and had empathy for the grieving families.  The President of the United States, Donald Trump can not bring himself to respect his fellow man.

Another Mass Shooting and Killings

This time in a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh that killed 11 and wounded 6 others including 4 police officers.  The shooter possessed an assault rifle and several hand guns according to reports.  Early reports indicate the shooter held extreme views against the Jewish people and posted inflammatory remarks about them on line.  President Trump gave the standard NRA answer when asked about the attack and said it would not have taken place if there were armed people inside the synagogue.

The President's divisive comments and attacks on people and our institutions ever since becoming President and even during the campaign has brought the White House where no other President would dare go.  In fact both the President and Vice President had to defend Trump for not being responsible for the shooters actions.  No other President has been so divisive they though they had to make such a statement to defend themselves.  Trump and his VP both understand just how corrupt Trump carries himself on a personal level.

It was reported that progressive Jewish leaders in Pittsburgh published an open letter urging Trump not to visit until you fully renounce white nationalism; stop targeting and endangering all minorities; cease your assault on immigrants and refugees and commit yourself to compassionate democratic policies that recognize the dignity of all of us.

This latest mass shooting and killings should remind all that the FBI reported mass shootings were at their highest level ever in 2017 going back to when the FBI first started keeping records.  And Trump is the one who bragged and said it would all stop when he became President. Well it has not done so despite his usual tough talk.  And to top it off, the mass shooting and killings in Las Vegas in 2017 was the worst of all since the FBI began to keep records.  And it happened on Trump's watch.

All signs seem to say that after the November 6 elections special counsel Robert Mueller will release his report with sweeping indictments that will touch the President.  If that becomes fact, hopefully the elections will provide a democratic controlled congress.  That would justify their actions to hold Trump accountable and return the democratic process to governing.

Will The Outcome Of The November 6 Congressional Election Have Its Roots In The 2016 Election?

To this very day, the outcome of the 2016 Presidential election in which we also elected members of congress, a proper evaluation has never been made because the news media and the political pundits were all about Trump.  And now with the November 6 election only a week away the pundits are all over the map with their predictions.  This writer believes the 2016 election is a clue to what will take place on November 6.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote 48% to 46% over Donald Trump and her margin of almost 2 million more votes than Trump set a record.  The other Presidential candidates received 6% of the vote so 54% of those voting preferred some one other than Donald Trump and most of those favored Clinton.  And in that same election, the news media and the pundits seem to have forgotten that the democratic party gained 6 seats in the U.S. House and 2 seats in the U.S. Senate.  Those 8 seats that were picked up are not a large number but indicate the democratic party in the popular vote did very well.  And the November 6 election will be decided by the popular vote.

According to the latest polls, Trump and his party have not gained any popular advantage since the 2016 election and Trump's approval ratings have been between the 30 and 40% range.  And there are no indication that the republican controlled congress has convinced democratic voters they are better at running the country.  And to top it off the approval rating of the republicans in congress are in the 20% range.  Losing the Presidency in the 2016 election because of the electoral process, the news media and the political pundits never understood how the voters preferred the democrats to lead.

This writer feels that nothing has changed the voters minds since the 2016 election and that enough republicans and independents have changed their mind to make a difference and vote democratic on November 6.  What happened with the popular vote in the 2016 election will end up being a plus for the democratic party.

A Lying President and A Lying Saudi Arabia Monarchy: And Both Deserve Each Other. But The People of America and Saudi Arabia Deserve Better

President Trump in his autocratic rule uses lies, division, fear and other autocratic means to govern.  He treats the news media as fake news and the enemy of the people.  One of his very first foreign visits in 2017 as President was with Saudi Arabia and he let it be known to their monarch that he had no interest in their human rights abuses.  He also reminded Saudi Arabia of his company's business relationship with that country.

The monarchy of Saudi Arabia has a long history of human rights abuses and really not a good friend of America.  The two countries do trade with each other and have an oil monopoly, but like Trump, they lie and use fear as policy.  And it all came to a head on October 2 when Jamal Khashoggi was murdered inside Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.  That was 23 days ago and Saudi Arabi still can not produce Jamal's body (Turkey said it was dismembered) and Saudi Arabia's excuse given to the public for the killing is a fairy tale by all accounts.  Donald Trump's reaction to the murder of Jamal has been muted and shows more concern for the monarch's feeling than the murderous act.

The President says he has to take into consideration the arms sale to Saudi Arabia and that they are a block against Iran.  Saudi Arabia has threatened big time retaliation against the United States if sanctions are imposed.  Jamal was killed because as a journalist, he wrote commentary about the Saudi's human rights abuses and was out spoken on the matter.  Like Trump, Saudi Arabia viewed Jamal's writings as fake news and an enemy of the people.

Trump's talk about Saudi Arabia being a block against Iran's aggressive actions is simply b.s.  If that were the case, why walk away from the Iran nuclear agreement?  The fact remains that it was Iraq under Saddam that was a block on Iran but George W. Bush removed that block with his invasion and occupation of Iraq over WMD that did not exist.  And 15 years later the United States still has troops there who are trying to stabilize Iraq.

Trump's passive attitude concerning Russia and now Saudi Arabia's actions speaks loud and clear.  Is it any wonder why just yesterday Russia's Putin said the U.S. no longer has the military advantage and that Russia would target countries where the U.S. has missile bases.  Past American Presidents would never leave 23 days go by without a sound and serious reaction to such a murder that took place in the Saudi consulate.  That is why past Presidents were the leader of the free world.

A Pitiful President, A Coward GOP Controlled Congress and Immigration Reform No Where In Sight

Trump's tough rhetoric on immigration has no bite and the republican controlled congress is still AWOL on the issue.  And to think both kicked the can down the road until the November elections are over.  In the mean time and just last week, Trump's Department of Homeland Security announced a record number of immigrants have crossed the border into America in the last 3 months since Trump's order to separate family at the border which he cancelled rather quickly.

And now Trump says he will send American troops to the border to seal the border and stop several thousand immigrants marching in caravan to the Mexico border who want to come to America.  Twenty one months in office and tough talking Trump and the GOP still have no comprehensive immigration plan to introduce to congress.  Not even to talk about and debate.  All the country has is the President's rhetoric, a few executive orders and a fairy tale called zero tolerance which sounds tough with no bite.  The bottom line is Trump and the GOP have no immigration plan and a comprehensive plan is the only answer to solve the total problem.

And to really get a feel how little immigration matters to the GOP, republican senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said just the other day the republicans will try to repeal the ACA again.  Does that sound familiar?  Immigration is not even on the GOP's radar.  Its out of their view even though they have controlled both houses of congress for the last 3 years and 10 months.

Yes my fellow Americans, Trump and the GOP are cowards on the immigration issue.  Their lack of action is proof.  And to top it off, they made it a priority with their base and then betrayed them.  Trump and the GOP blame game will no longer work.  What is taken place on their watch is of their own doing and lack of a plan and policy.  Blame is the game pitiful and coward politicians play, and both deserve Trump and the GOP.   What a shame.

Note:  History will record that the caravan from Central America moving into Mexico and looking to cross America's southern border will be known as "Trump's Caravan" for his failure to move his party to act on immigration reform and there fore encouraging immigration to America because of a lack of policy.  And the Trump administration now say they will come out with a new immigration order to replace the previous order that was cancelled that separated parents and children at the border and that it will be announced before the November 6 elections.  Just another seat of the pants order that will not solve the problem.

President Donald Trump Continues His Traitorous Acts

First it was his request to Russia to hack into an American's email for the purpose of seeking dirt, then it was his suggested comment and cover for Russia that a rouge operation was responsible for the hacking of the American process during the 2016 Presidential election even though our intelligence community reported to Trump it was Russian intelligence who acts on orders from Putin.  And now, Trump's latest traitorous act was to suggest that it was a rouge event responsible for what happened at Saudi Arabia's consulate in Turkey concerning the disappearance of American citizen Mr. Khashoggi.  It was a suggestion for Saudi leaders to follow.

Mr. Khashoggi disappeared at the Saudi consulate on October 3 and Saudi leaders still can not admit the truth two weeks after the fact even though it took place in their building with their own people.  They told Trump they do not know what happened and Trump said he believed them.  Trump's companies do business with Saudi Arabia and some in the news media have suggested that Trump and the Saudi leaders are trying to work out a statement to release that will satisfy both countries.  If that is true it is the worse of Trump's traitorous acts.

America's traitorous President is still putting his own self and his personal business before the interest of  the country and its people.  Until the Mueller investigation releases its report and findings, the next best hope is to elect a democratic controlled congress on November 6.

Another Huge First For PolitiDose and Its Readers Continue To Stay Ahead Of The News Curve.

It is no coincident that the readers of PolitiDose know who the big spenders really are in Washington.  And like wise, not surprising when Trump's Treasury Secretary announced this week that the federal deficit at the end of Trump's very first fiscal year (9/30/18) came in at $779 billion, the highest deficit in 6 years and 17% higher than President Obama's last fiscal year deficit that ended on 9/30/17.  It was all predicted in commentary by PolitiDose many times because of precedent.

Other information given out by Treasury:  (1)  Corporate tax collections fell 22% in fiscal 2018.  A result of the Trump-GOP tax cut that reduced the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%.   (2)  Interest paid on the national debt was the highest ever at $523 billion.   (3)  The total federal debt which combines annual deficits was 78% of the nations entire gross domestic product in June, the largest since WWII.   (4)  The Trump administration reported next years deficit will be over $1 trillion.

It should be remembered that President Trump and the republican controlled congress promised the tax cuts would produce more revenue and pay for themselves.  Reagan and Bush 43 promised the same fairy tale after their tax cuts but it never took place.  William Gale, a senior fellow at Brookings Institution said, by cutting taxes in 2017 when the economy was already strong, congress and the Trump administration not only missed a golden opportunity to begin to address the fiscal problem, they actually made the problem worse.  And most news media people still try to pass the republican party off as conservative and that they are the party of balanced budgets.  It is also worthwhile to remember that no republican President has balance a federal budget since Dwight Eisenhower in 1960, well over 50 years ago.

But PolitiDose told the true republican story for the last 8 years in commentary.  And Trump continues the lies of Reagan, Bush 43 and the GOP in congress.  PolitiDose also informed its readers the republican strategy is to bankrupt the federal government so as to have an excuse to repeal and or cut severely Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.   And sure enough, after the Treasury announcement concerning the deficit, Mitch McConnell, republican leader of the Senate said that after the Nov. 6 elections the republicans in congress would move to cut those programs.

In the next month or so the Congressional Budget Office and the Office of Management and Budget will come out with their final numbers for fiscal 2018.  We will then know if the numbers furnished by Treasury are accurate or not.  The shame of the republicans tax cuts since Reagan is the big lie to their own base.  And in the case of President Trump, who lies about everything, it has become policy.

PolitiDose, your daily dose of political commentary will continue to inform its readers what to expect in the future if Trump and the republicans still control both houses of congress after the November 6 elections.

Federal Judge Slaps Down Another Attempt By The Trump Administration To Affect A Student Loan Rule

A federal judge ordered immediate implementation of a rule designed to help students cheated by for-profit colleges get relief on their education debt.  The rule was put in place by the Obama administration and delayed by education secretary Betsy DeVos after Trump took office.  Eighteen states and the district of Columbia sued DeVos over her actions.

The rule was known as the Borrower Defense Rule that outlined a way for student borrowers to apply for student loan forgiveness if they were defrauded or misled by their college.  About the same time.  DeVos actions took place, President Trump had to settle out of court a multi million dollar law suit against his Trump University brought by students.  The suit alleged fraud, false advertisement and empty promises.

The actions that DeVos took was criticized by the Democrats and consumer groups.  This writer believes DeVos was following Trump and the GOP ideology as usual.  Consumer protection comes last because they cater to the wealthy.  The Trump-GOP tax cuts are another reminder.

Orleans Parish School Board Denied A Tax Break For Bollinger Algiers

The school board voted to reject Bollinger Algiers application for a 5 year property tax exemption under Louisiana's Industrial Tax Exemption Program.  The board said they rejected the request because the application did not meet two of four rules for tax break approval by the board.  The story was carried in a Times Picayune article of 10/14.

The school board did not have the power to review industrial tax exemptions until Governor Edwards changed the process.  It was the right thing to do because before he acted other state boards could make the decisions that would cause school districts to lose out on taxes that support public education without having a say so in the matter.  It should be obvious that local government should have a say so in tax matters that affect them.

Bollinger, like other business received a 14% federal tax break when Trump and the GOP lowered the corporate income tax rate from 35% to 21%.  But the business community is never satisfied.  They always want more from the states and the federal government.  The Baton Rouge area is facing the same kind of tax relief filed by EXXON for the tax exemption.  And all know EXXON is one of the largest corporations in the world and very profitable.  The school district in that area should reject EXXONS request.  Louisiana needs the tax revenue, EXXON does not need the exemption.

Times Picayune Opinion Writer Tim Morris: It Now Becomes Clear

Morris, in his opinion column of October 14 writes it has become clear former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal does not have the character or instincts to be a successful politician on the national level as compared with Nikki Haley, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.  Really???  Morris, like other conservative writers in Louisiana loved Jindal when he served as governor and supported Jindal's policies.

Very few good things happened in Louisiana under the Jindal administration and Morris never did allow himself to realize that Jindal never had the character to be a successful governor.  Morris finally opened his eyes after Jindal left office when he could finally see clearly.  Conservative opinion writers never see the light of day when republicans are in office, they rather blame democrats for every thing.  Ideology can be blind.

Morris takes it to a new low in another column dated 10/12 titled, Our Political Choices Are Now Between Anger and Depression.  No Tim, the column describes republicans only.  Because the people do have a better choice in the November elections with the democratic party, the party of progress, accomplishments, the rule of law that respects our constitution and our institutions.  When conservative writers have nothing positive to write about republican administrations, they always try to link democrats with the republican failures.

As for Nikki Haley, she will be remembered as the U.S. Ambassador who carried out Trump's rage before the United Nations and then resigned after two years in Trump's cabinet so she could
put some distance between her and Trump for the sake of her future political ambitions, hoping people have a short memory.

The United States, Mexico and Canada Trade Agreement

President Trump earlier this month with Corporate America, his Treasury Secretary and trade representatives at his side announced that the U.S., Mexico and Canada had agreed to a new trade deal to replace NAFTA, the much maligned agreement.  Trump painted a bright picture for the new agreement and like a little kid took the opportunity to bash past administrations decisions on trade.

But the American people were not told that it will take several years before we actually know the results of the new trade deal if in fact turns out to be better than NAFTA.  Congress will actually hold hearings on the issue next year and that is when we will learn what the fine print says.  In the mean time Trump's commerce secretary said America's trade imbalance with Asia and Europe will probably be the largest at the end of this year than in the last 10 years even though Trump raised tariffs on trade originating in those countries.

Trump's trade war of words with China is not going well and Trump is back tracking.  His economic advisor Larry Kudlow said last week Trump is now trying to arrange a meeting with China in November at the G-20 Summit in Buenos Aires where the U.S., China and other nations will meet.  China cancelled the last trade talk meeting with the U.S. that was set up and said they would not be intimidated by Trump's threats.

Transparency concerning the agreement will not beknown until next year when congress meets to take up the issue.  And even than, if republicans are still in control of congress, the American people may still be in the dark.

The Appointment Of Judge Brett Kavanaugh: Trump's Malignancy Spreads To The U.S. Supreme Court

A malignant President is the way journalist Carl Bernstein described President Trump in an on air appearance  on CNN last year.  And after 20 months in office the malignancy continues to spread and this time to the Supreme Court with Trump's appointment of Brett Kavanaugh.  It also infected the republican controlled Judicial Committee that handled the confirmation hearings.

It is the latest malignancy and the worse so far because it has infected the highest court in the land that has the final say so on the rule of law that Trump attacks and undermines every day.  This writer can not remember another Supreme Court appointee taking the bench so tainted by his own actions and testimony.  We know that the republican controlled congress and Trump's cabinet are ditto heads who have accepted and supported Trump's malignancy and in the very near future we will find out just where the majority stands on the U.S. Supreme Court.

As this writer said in a previous commentary, it only takes one so called conservative justice to neutralize the Kavanaugh malignancy.  And time will be the judge.

Republican U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski Stood Tall

Lisa Murkowski, the republican Senator from Hawaii stood tall as a member of the republican controlled Senate Judiciary Committee during the confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  She voted against cutting off debate that her party was successful at doing, and then she opposed the confirmation of Kavanaugh when the full Senate cast their vote which approved the appointment.

As the lone republican Senator  to oppose Kavanaugh she towered over her remaining male republican Senators who all voted yes and had the wisdom to use the judicial reason to do so.  After listening to Kavanaugh's hysterical testimony on Sept. 27 before the committee and his alleged claim against the democrats and the Clintons, Senator Murkowski referred her colleges to Rule 1.2, the code of judicial conduct and said Kavanaugh did not meet the standard.  This writer believes Kavanaugh's testimony failed the test of being impartial and lacks the temperament to seek the truth which comes with the responsibility of a judge.

Senator Murkowski did not feel the need to use Dr. Ford's testimony one way or the other to make her decision.  She knew what the judicial test was and why it mattered and was established and based her decision to oppose the Kavanaugh nomination on that basis.  The Senator represented her state and the nation with character and integrity.  Her republican colleges just wanted to confirm Kavanaugh for the political reasons of ideology and their leadership took the position that they would confirm Kavanaugh no matter what.

Yes, the lady Senator from Hawaii was a true lady.  And she is also a better person than her republican colleges.  And that really says it all.

Trump And The Republicans Blame Game In Full Campaign Mode As The November Elections Near

Less than a month before the November 6 congressional elections, Trump and his ditto head party are sending out emails blaming the democratic party for everything negative that is taking place on their own watch.  They are doing what they do best, lie  They read the latest news where their party is behind in the Iron Belt states that Trump won in the 2016 election.

Regardless how the elections turn out, Trump will not be the cause.  Congressional elections are local and in general voters are not thinking about national or international matters but look to what is taking lace in their state.  Plus and a big plus, is the fact that most voters do not have a handle on the issues.  They either like the candidate or they don't.  A good example:  Voters think President Reagan balanced the federal budget.  (He did not, not even one);  The democratic party are the big spenders; Republicans are best at creating jobs;  Republicans are best at keeping America safe;  But the facts tell the opposite story.

But this writer believes there may be a key element in this election with women and the young first timevoters.  If they turn out in numbers like they say they are going to do and actually believe in what they have been protesting their vote may be the determining factor on November 6.  That is when the news media starts its non stop reporting and tries to tell the people what really took place and why.  The spin will take over and distort it all.

U.S. Job Creation Fell Back In Septembr

The U.S. Labor Department announced that the economy created 134,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate fell to 3.7%.  It was the 96th straight month of positive job growth for the economy.  September was the lowest job creation month since March 2018 when 103,000 jobs were reported created.  Economist predicted 185,000 jobs would be created in September.

So far, in Trump's 20 months in office 3,632,000 jobs have been created for a monthly average total of 181,600 jobs created per month.  In President Obama's last 20 months in office 4,007,000 jobs were created for a monthly average total of 200,350 jobs created per month.  In other words, there is no job creation boom from the tax cuts like Trump brags about.  What the country is enjoying is the economic expansion that began on President Obama's watch and in its 9th straight year of expansion.

And just think, when President Obama took office the economy was losing 700,000 jobs a month thanks to the record recession of President Bush  When Trump took office the economy was creating and adding approximately 200,000 jobs a month and positive job growth had taken place for over 70 straight months.  The next comparison can be made when the CBO releases the final budget information and numbers on Trump's first fiscal year budget which ended September 30.  And PolitiDose will be there to keep the pubic informed.

The U.S. Senate Confirms Brett Kavanaugh For The U.S. Supreme Court

The republican controlled Senate on a 50-48 vote  confirmed President Trump's nominee Brett Kavanaugh for a seat on the United States Supreme Court.  Will the vote put an end to the issue, fuel other protests or continue the debate and divide the country.  Will the legal profession who took the position that Kavanaugh disqualified himself with his out bursts and accusations at the September 27 hearing and will they continue to express their concerns.

Will Kavanaugh be a tainted Supreme Court Justice that ends a judicial system that is overall thought to be fair and respected.  This writer thinks the big question will fall to the present four so called conservative justices including the chief Justice John Roberts.  Will one of the four be a true conservative and not let the court be swayed by Kavanaugh's extreme views about the constitution.  It would only take one conservative vote to break away from Kavanaugh's views to keep him in check and keep the court's decisions truly in line with the constitution.  This writer believes there has to be a conservative on the court who understands what Kavanaugh's extreme views could do to the court's image and would not let Kavanaugh's views remake the court in his own image.

Although conservatives on the court today do not compare to the ones before the Gingrich era which served the country well with the democratic party, there still has to be one today on the court who puts America first.  The four most talked about decisions by the Supreme Court in the last 64 years were:  Brown vs. Board of Education;  Miranda;  Roe vs. Wade; and the Affordable Care Act.  All four decisions were led by republican appointed chief justices who voted with the majority.  Those conservative justices put the constitution and facts first above the politics of their party.  That should be a clue to the conservatives who sit on the Supreme Court today and how to deal with Kavanaugh.

Note:  Brown vs. Board of Education ended public school segregation in the 1954 decision.  The vote was 9 - 0.  Chief Justice Earl  Warren was appointed by President Eisenhower and voted with the majority.

The Miranda decision gave those arrested the right to remain silent in a 1966 decision.  The vote was 5-3.  Chief Justice Earl Warren voted with the majority.

Roe vs. Wade  (The abortion decision) was decided in 1973.  The vote was 7 - 2.  Chief Justice Warren Burger was appointed by President Nixon and voted with the majority.

The Affordable Care Act:  Up held by the Supreme Court in 2015 and was found constitutional.  The vote was 6 - 3.  Chief Justice John Roberts was appointed by President George W. Bush and voted with the majority.

Amazon Will Raise Its Minimum Wage To $15.00 An Hour

Amazon, the largest U.S. Corporation announced it would raise its minimum wage to $15/hour to be effective next month.  The raise would cover 350,000 plus workers including full time, part time, temporary and seasonal workers.  Amazon's actions were looked upon as a major victory for the $15/hour movement.  Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said we listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do and decided we wanted to lead.  Amazon also said it would push congress to increase the federal minimum wage that now stands at $7.25/hour.

Amazon is the company President Trump tried to ridicule because it has a contract with the USPO at a discount rate to handle its shipments.  But the Post Office struck back and pointed out that the business with Amazon is profitable.  Trump's real reason for his hit on Amazon is that its founder, Jeff Bezos also owns the Washington Post which has run a number of stories concerning Trump' lies and his campaign's involvement with Russia.

Amazon's actions long with the many states that have raised their minimum wage will go a long way to keep the ball rolling for employees to be paid a decent wage and share in the profits   CEO's and their executives have been enjoying for the past 30 plus years.  Just think,  American bread and butter industries could have been doing this long ago but ignored the average worker big time.

PolitiDose will be watching to see who follows Amazon's actions.

Another Big First For PoitiDose: Judge Brett Kavanaugh's Hysterical Testimony Of September 27,2018

PolitiDose called the shot with one of the first, and maybe even the very first to recognize that Kavanaugh's hysterical testimony under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the above date was more than enough to disqualify him for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.  And it was especially his out burst against an alleged rigged hearings by the democrats and invoking the Clintons into the subject matter.

Now we have several reported stories by the news media concerning a letter signed by 500 law professors, including 8 law professors from Yale University (Where Kavanaugh earned his law degree) that condemn Kavanaugh for a lack of judicial temperament.  The letter was sent to the U.S. Senate to say that the volatile temperament Kavanaugh displayed on Thursday (Sept. 27) as he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee disqualifies him from sitting on the nations highest court.  We regret that we feel compelled to write to you to provide our views that at the Senate hearings on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, the honorable Brett Kavanaugh displayed a lack of judicial temperament that would be disqualifying for any court, and certainly for elevation to the highest court of this land.

The signees also criticize the judge for indicating that he believes allegations made by professor Christine Ford and other women are "a calculated and orchestrated political hit" by members of the democratic party rather than acknowledging that the Senate must try to understand and investigate the facts surrounding the allegations.  Instead of trying to sort out with reason and care the allegations that were raised, Judge Kavanaugh responded in an intemperate, inflammatory and partial manner, as he interrupted and, at times was discourteous to questioners."  The law professors site two statutes governing bias and recusal, that require a judge to step aside if he or she is at risk of being perceived as being unfair.

Readers of PolitiDose would note that some of the comments this writer made in the article written and published on 9/28/18, the day after Kavanaugh's testimony are very similar to what the law professors letter conveys almost a week later.  It becomes obvious every day that the Senate Judiciary Committee does not need Dr. Ford's testimony to find President Trump's nominee, Brett Kavanaugh unfit to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.  And as strange as it may seem, Kavanaugh's hysterical testimony supplied the proof.

The full U.S. Senate in their meeting tomorrow should vote to reject the Kavanaugh nomination.

Louisiana's Little Boy Representative In Congress Steve Scalise Shows Once Again His Hypocrisy.

This writer does not live in the area that Steve Scalise represents.  However, this past week I received a chain email from Scalise seeking donations for the November elections and urging voters to vote republican and against the usual ghosts candidates, Obama, Pelosi, Clinton and etc.  But if one goes to Scalise's congressional web site he does not accept comments from people in Louisiana who live outside the zip codes he represents.  What a hypocrite.

The email was void of accomplishments by Scalise and his GOP and just the old worn out litany of blaming the democratic party for all of the mess the GOP has created.  Scalise is running scared and like a coward would say anything because the polls indicate the democratic party has a chance to be elected the majority party in the U. S. House.  Its bad enough now that Scalise has done nothing for Louisiana and if he and his party loose control of the U.S. House they would be reduced to the minority party of personal attacks.

Question for Louisiana voters.  Do you think lobbyist and the business community who live outside of the zip codes that Scalise represents have a hard time contacting Scalise?

Trump and The GOP Back Track: They Now Want The FBI To Investigate Dr. Ford's Allegations

After rejecting the Democrat's call for the FBI to investigate the allegations by Dr. Ford against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh over 2 weeks ago, the republican controlled Judiciary Committee asked President Trump to direct the FBI to investigate same.  The President did so and the reason why the republicans finally asked him to do so was because one of their republican members, Senator Jeff Flake said he would not vote for Kavanaugh before the full Senate without such investigation.

Trump, like his GOP, refused to have the FBI get involved before Friday and Senator Flake's statement.  And to top it all off, up until Flake made his position known, Trump and his ditto head GOP were pushing for a early vote and passage even though all the facts were not in.  The republican controlled committee and Trump were only concerned with confirming Kavanaugh in a partisan way and could care less about the sexual allegations.  Their actions were a total disregard for the democratic process of fair treatment.

Had Trump and the GOP heeded the democratic request to have the FBI step in early it would have moved the process along more quickly and orderly and the committee would have had an opportunity to avoid Thursday's circus with Kavanaugh's hysterical testimony.  But civility, character and courage are not in tuned with the republicans doctrine of ideology.  It is the reason they are unable to govern.  The doctrine of ideology rejects facts and sound judgement when in conflict.

Electing a democratic controlled congress in November is still the best avenue to reverse the failings of the GOP.

Confirmation Hearings For Judge Brett Kavanaugh: One Sane and Civil Witness and One Hysterical Witness

Thursday's hearing by the republican controlled Senate Judiciary Committee in their continuing hearings to confirm Trump's nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court turned out to be another disaster in governing.  The republican led committee has mishandled the hearings from the very beginning and Thursday's hearing was their greatest failure.

The only bright spot was Dr. Ford, the witness who alleges Judge Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her many years ago.  Her testimony under oath was calm, civil, quiet, fearful and she answered all the questions, even though she still experienced the pain of the event she described.  She even acknowledged there were some things she does not remember.  She was a believable and credible witness.

On the other hand, Judge Kavanaugh was hysterical in his comments, would not answer a number of questions, interrupted those asking the questions and appeared out of control.  To this writer, it appeared President Trump coached him how to act and be in complete denial.  He even aped the President when he attacked and blamed the Clintons for Thursday's hearings.  That's what Trump does the best, blame Clinton when anything goes wrong on his watch.

The republican chairman of the Committee did something never done before in such a confirmation hearing.  He hired someone out side of congress to interview a witness, a disregard of the committee's responsibility.  And republican Senator Lindsay Graham's maniac statement really exposed the GOP for what they are, cowards.  But those who follow politics know Graham's statement actually describe Graham himself and the GOP who refused to give President Obama's Supreme Court nominee a hearing.  A nominee could never be treated any worse than that.

The Republican rushed to judgement on Thursday's hearing and should have worked to have the FBI investigate the alleged acts with all concerned and any witness before scheduling the hearing.  The Democrats were right in their request to do so.  But the GOP was determined to confirm Kavanaugh no matter what.  Their failure at governing should be a wake up call for all Americans.

This writer believes Judge Kavanaugh's performance at Thursday's hearing disqualify him to be the next Supreme Court Justice.  He did not display the temperament, calm, civility or reasonable response of a Supreme Court Justice that has to make decisions that affect people's lives and the country for many years into the future.

Yes, There Was A Time When U.S. Presidents Commanded Respect At The United Nations

Through the years, the United Nations and its member countries respected the United States and its Presidents.  It may not have always agreed with or voted with America's proposals, but by and large the U.N. followed the lead of the United States.  That changed somewhat during the George W. Bush administration when he ordered the invasion and occupation of Iraq over WMD that did not exist.  Most U. N. members rejected Bush's call to join in the invasion and Turkey, a staunch U.S. ally, refused the U.S. request to use Turkish territory to launch a part of the invasion into Iraq.

But just this week, President Trump attended the U.N. meeting in New York and bragged about his so called accomplishments, attacked our allies and flaunt America's military power that brought laughter from many U.N. member countries.  The trumpet man brought his disrespect to a gathering of nations that meet to try and bridge the gap and discuss the problems the world has to address.  But the trumpet man choose to toot his own horn which brought the laughter.

Trump failed to be a statesman at a critical time and has continued to isolate America, its allies and farther damage the reputation of America's willingness to lead the world.  It was another pitiful performance by a President whose administration is in chaos with scandal and hell bent to rule in a autocratic manner.

The people and the country deserve better.
