Well, if one goes by the many reports by the sport's media that have been released just in the last week and a half, LSU is the hottest team in college football now. The opinions expressed, expectation and predictions have them making the CFP, a run at the national championship and even Nick Sabin said LSU was his dark horse choice to win the national championship. The sport's media also used stats of LSU's defense and offensive capabilities to back their opinions. Scott Rabalais, sport's reporter for the New Orleans Advocate even jumped into the mix with his article of November 5 saying that the media is even in love with LSU.
But reality tells us that as of this very moment, LSU has not defeated any team this year that one can say was a good team. The three SEC opponents they defeated so far, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Auburn can not be considered a good team with all having a 4-4 won-loss record overall and a losing record in SEC play. Clemson, Louisiana Tech and McNeese whom LSU also defeated are certainly not teams that can be called good. And Louisiana Tech and McNeese are not even in LSU's class. The only two good teams LSU faced this year so far are Ole Miss and Kentucky and lost to both.
So, tomorrow LSU kicks off against Alabama, a team that is a good team, the following week against Texas and then the following week against Tennessee. All three teams are good teams and the results will put an end to the opinions, expectations and predictions and reality will set in. As far as this writer's opinion, it is the same now as it was when explained in my commentary before the season started. LSU is still rated to my way of thinking a "wait and see" team. And we will "see" starting tomorrow.
