The U.S. Labor Department announced the economy added 559,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate came in at 5.8%. The Department also announced that job creation for April was adjusted upwards to 278,000 jobs created vs. the 266,000 jobs originally reported for April. The 5.8% unemployment rate for May was the lowest since March of 2020. It was 6.3% when Trump left office. The GOP and the so called conservative news media were not happy with the numbers and tried to put a negative spin on them which follows their pattern of lies and anti-American rhetoric.
So in President Biden's first full 4 months in office (February - May) 2,075,000 jobs have been created for a monthly average of 518,750 jobs created each month. In Trump's last 4 full months in office (Sept.- Dec.) 1,404,000 jobs were created for a monthly average of 351,000 jobs created each month. And in Trump's first 4 full months (Feb - May 2017) 682,000 jobs were created for a monthly average of 170,500 jobs created each month. During Trump's term as President the unemployment rate increased 1.6%. It was 4.7% when Trump took office and 6.3% when he left office. Note: Only 49,000 jobs were created in January 2021 on Trump's watch as reported by the U.S. Labor Department.
The job numbers tell us that the Biden administration has done a much better job at creating jobs than the Trump administration both before and after the economic recession and pandemic and Biden is doing it while the problem is still in progress. The job numbers also rebut the negative voices who have over estimated the recovery and are saying the numbers are a disappointment. It is the typical propaganda of the GOP and the so called conservative news media to undermine the administration.
The next step to continue the economic recovery is to pass the President's infrastructure plan and pay for it as the President proposed. The economy always needs priming over time, especially after a serious economic recession and pandemic such as the one that began in 2020. The business community does not take care of its every day employees during a recession. They just lay them off without help and in many cases cancel or do not offer health care. They expect government to take care of their own workers and as a result several COVID relief bills were passed by congress to do so.
History is repeating itself as the democratic administration of President Biden is moving the economy forward and cautiously with policy and plans that address the issues and the problems. It is all preordained by the precedent of past democratic administrations in the last 60 years and especially in the last 40 years after the massive tax cuts by Reagan, Bush 41 and Trump that benefited those who needed them the least.
And "Politidose" has been there for the past 9 years in commentary laying out the facts how democratic administrations have a much better record at governing in every phase, including keeping America safe. The GOP, President Trump and the so called conservatives have nothing left to offer the American people but a corrupted anti-American extreme ideology and agenda. So stay tuned to Politidose, your daily dose of political commentary for the facts and the real story.
Note 1: Ronald Reagan is the only republican administration in the last 68 years that left office with a lower unemployment rate than when he took office. What a terrible record on unemployment and job creation for past GOP administrations in all those years. And if any one believes that is just a coincidence, the country is in real trouble.
